Afrobeats-Superstar Flavour will perform live on stage in VICOM in the district Kreuzberg in Berlin on 1st of July 2016. The Nigerian singer and songwriter became internationally known in 2011 with his song „Nwa Baby (Ashawo remix)“ for which he won amongst others the „Best High Life Video“ price at the Nigeria Entertainment Awards and „Most Gifted Afro-Pop Video“ at the Channel O Music Video Awards. Flavour published his first album N’abania in 2005 which at first mainly rose regional and national awareness. However, in the following years he got many awards, for example as best traditional artist in 2014 (African Musik Magazine Awards) or musician of the year in 2014 (City People Entertainment Awards) and thus continually increased his fame.
It is only known to very few people that he began his musical career with only 13 years as percussionist for the church choir of the city Enugu in the South of Nigeria. He was very lucky and got to know Chris I Ordor, CEO of SoundCity Communications, who had recently founded his company with the aim to train young musicians as professional artists. In 2006 Flavour finally got a scholarship to study music, reached a professional level as musician and began to play the keyboard. His mother was not very enthusiastic about his plans but Chinedu Okoli, so his real name, showed musical talent and inspired people with his afrobeats. This music genre fascinates with a lively mix of jazz, rock and yoruba-folklore and increasingly gains international popularity. The event with star guest Flavour this Friday presents amongst others authentic, hypnotic afrobeats as well as a diverse mix of Hip Hop, R&B, Dancehall and the Ghanaian music genre Azonto. The event in VICOM which is organised by PRO Events BLN starts at 21:00 and costs 30€ in pre-sale as well as 40€ at the door.
