A wonderful example on how sport can faciliate integration is represented by a new children’s book by woman writer Diana Mac Omolo from Munich. The protagonist of the story is also living here – Jerome: the coolest kicker in town.
The Jerome from the book just moved to the city with his family. The whole family is excited about their new home as well as the children are about their new school. Nevertheless Jerome and his sister have a difficult time to catch up with the new life in the neighborhood, a problem that is bothering their parents. As the anual “Greenfields’-tournament is taking place, Jerome gets the chance to play for his class. His whole school is surprised about how tactically clever he is acting. With the help of Jerome the team wins the tournament and now everybody wants to be friends with him.
The message of the book is as simple as it is ingenious: Kids are playing soccer together, work together as a team and share their joy for the victory of the team. The author, who came from Kenia to Munich several years ago, has always been involved in family- and social welfare-projects, that strenghten the role of women and increase the awareness for the matters of children and young people. She already presented her novel “Love Comes to Munich” in Munich this August.
