Dapo Daniel Oyebanjo, better known as D’banj, is coming to Heidelberg for a concert at the Infinity Club on the third of september. The nigerian solo musician has won several Music Awards, among them the Best African Act at the MTV Europe Music Award 2007, the title Artist of the Year at the MTV Africa Music Awards 2009 and many more.
D’banj became internationally famous through his summer hit “Oliver Twist” in 2012 with a mixture of Afrobeat and electronic Dance Music. The song was on top of the African Charts and also in the Top 10 of the UK Single Charts 2012. According to the T.I.N. Magazine, he is the richest solo musician of Nigeria. Born in Zaria in Nigeria, he initially was expected to follow his father’s steps and make an apprenticeship in the military. Though, his brother told him playing harmonica and in the following years, his passion for music became his profession. He sings in Yoruba, English and Pidgin English. Most of his songs are based on his own life and treat the problems young nigerians encounter when they try to realise their dreams.
At the concert in Heidelberg, he will perform with DJ Doggy D (The Five Star General), DJ Rabba (The Magic Fingers of the East), DJ Aisher (The Incredible and Undisputed Turntable Goddess), Rapper Rico Green (MC Representing NY) and Cassy Nyemba (Special Act-Dancehall Queen).
