Growing up in an artist commune in Ivory Coast, self- taught musician dancer and percussionist Dobet Gnahoré has been immersed in Pan- African culture since the age of 5.
In 1999, she left her homeland and moved to France with her husband and their child, where she met guitarist Colin Laroche de Féline. They decided to establish a band called “Na Afriki” that mainly consists of French and Tunisian musicians.
Gnahoré is known for her energetic and thrilling show performance. Her lyrics often deal with pressing social issues, including the importance of family and AIDS blending traditional African elements with folk and jazz influences.
As a peak of her career Gnahoré shared an award for Best Urban/Alternative Performance for the song “Palea” with the US-singer India.Ari at the 52nd Grammy Awards in 2010.
Recently, she published her 5th album “Miziki”in March. It is a mixture of African sounds with samples of electronic elements and inspired by her travels all around the world. In addition, it calls attention to the to the two principal causes she supports: a rich, generous and unified Africa and the strength of African women.
